WATCH

Cub Sport

Brisbane band Cub Sport will perform their new album LIKE NIRVANA live and in full for the first time on Sunday and you can watch from the comfort of your lounge room.  The performance will premiere at 8pm Brisbane time on YouTube and the band will be utilising the platform’s new monetisation feature Super Chat to encourage viewers to donate to Black Rainbow.

“Black Rainbow is an organisation that supports queer Indigenous people in Australia,” Cub Sport singer Tim Nelson told InQueensland. “Three-quarters of Cub Sport are queer so it’s a cause that’s very close to our hearts.”

LIKE NIRVANA debuted at No.2 on the ARIA charts when it was released late last month – coming in just behind Taylor Swift’s Folklore, and Nelson said the band were overwhelmed with the result, saying “getting a No.2 next to Taylor Swift is basically like getting a No.1”.

“We were really just gunning for a top 10 album, so when we came in at No.2 it was pretty surreal. LIKE NIRVANA is a super unique album, some might say it’s even a bit weird.

“I wasn’t sure how it would be received by other people but we’ve had the most incredible reviews of our career so far and our first top 10 album! It’s been pretty affirming and a great reminder that as an artist you should always follow your gut and make what you love and what makes you feel excited.”

Nelson said the performance, which the band recorded at Brisbane’s ProCam Studios, has professional sound and lighting and will feature every song from the new album.

“Something that was kind of a surprise for me was how much it felt like a real show – I could feel this specific connected energy I feel at live shows which is something really special.

“It’s really different releasing an album and not being able to take it around the world how we usually would, but I’m grateful we get to bring the show to a digital space like this.”

Curated by McCarthy-Swann Projects, which is headed by Amy-Clare McCarthy and Kieran Swann, RAZZLE DAZZLE is comprised of works from 11 artists, with nine different sites across the city transformed into spaces to spark imagination and engagement.

One of artist Richard Bell’s works features in RAZZLE DAZZLE.
