Last chance for Japanese bites and beverages at Sapporo Izakaya by Taro

Night Feast – the culinary and cultural celebration currently taking over Brisbane Powerhouse – is in its final week, which means three things.

You have only a few more days to feast your way around a flavour-packed roster of eats from some of Brisbane’s best restaurants, immerse yourself in an awe-inspiring line-up of art and enjoy a delectable dining experience from one of The City’s most revered ramen chefs and a beer sensei. If you’re yet to journey through the sensory wonderland that is Night Feast, we suggest you plan your visit now, before it’s too late!

Night Feast’s spring edition welcomed a number of new experiences to its jam-packed menu, but maybe the most exciting is the addition of Sapporo Izakaya by Taro – a pop-up Japanese-centric restaurant. Combining the flavours of Japan provided by renowned ramen chef Taro Akimoto of Taro’s Ramen and Sapporo beer sensei Shinichiro Shimo, this flavoursome fusion perfectly pairs sumptuous Asian plates with Japan’s original beer. Unlike the other grab-and-go food options at Night Feast, Sapporo Izakaya by Taro invites feasters to eat, drink and stay for a while.

Swapping his ramen paddle for a grill, Taro brings the best of izakaya cooking to Night Feast. Watch Taro in action as he prepares a mouth-watering menu of flavour-packed fare from the stove, fryer and grill. You can choose from a list of palate-pleasing plates including three flavours of chicken karaage, grilled tuna collar with garlic chive tare, wagyu with garlic soy and miso butter, and walnut miso mochi ice-cream. For those who want to really experience Sapporo Izakaya by Taro, we suggest opting for the osusume set, which includes potato salad, posh edamame, trio of karaage, wagyu garlic steak and a walnut miso yaki onigiri. These tantalising tastes of Japan are paired with your choice of Sapporo beer that is expertly poured by beer sensei Shinichiro. Over the past decade, Shinichiro has journeyed across Australia imparting the art of achieving the perfect Sapporo pour, using a two-tap technique – it really does enhance the flavour!

To take part in this one-of-a-kind feasting experience, you can book a spot in advance by heading here or simply walk in – but be quick, as you only have until Sunday October 29!
