A $30 million injection will see the Southern Hemisphere’s largest, cleanest and greenest superyacht facility, based at Coomera, double in size by 2024.

The Boat Works CEO Tony Longhurst, who founded the company in the 1980s, said the latest investment was designed to build on the success of the superyacht facility – opened in January 2020 – by adding more infrastructure for tenants and customers.

“There is a huge demand to accommodate more boats undercover and our 70 sheds have reached capacity. We are proud to offer new opportunities for growth for all our marine service partners within the facility. Their success in turn enhances our operational efficiency,” he said.

The 22ha acre site at Coomera features two ships yards and employs more than 80 marine service professionals who each year haul more than 5000 boats in and out of water.

The Stage 5 superyacht investment includes:

• The addition of 50 per cent more sheds, hardstand and parking
• Three new completed workshops welcoming new marine service professionals across the site
• New 90 tonne machinery to join the fleet of five haul out machines across the site
• A two-storey Commercial Centre to provide offices and showrooms for new marine service providers

The expansion will relieve the current capacity issues

David Good, CEO AIMEX-Superyacht Australia said the facilities were “well and truly needed” with superyacht visitation and the domestic market booming.

“Since January 2020, the Australian charter yacht fleet has grown from 59 charter vessels to 120,” he said.

“And in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, there will more demand than ever, especially for refit and maintenance facilities. We commend Tony for his investment and his vision.”
