InQueensland joins national campaign to support local journalism

The growth of local and independent newsrooms is a good news story in the midst of continuing challenges for the media. We’ve joined with like-minded publishers across the country to make sure your stories keep being told.

Mass content syndication, prolific AI-fuelled misinformation and disinformation, and rushed reporting lacking nuance and diverse voices … these are some of the challenges Australians must contend with when it comes to accessing important news.

But in the midst of this turmoil, with so many media organisations centralising in Sydney and Melbourne, local and independent media organisations are standing tall to provide quality, accessible, verified and locally relevant news.

InQueensland has been providing independent, high-quality news to Queenslanders since 2020.

We’ve recently joined a network of similar-minded publishers to strengthen public-interest journalism across Australia.

Together, we represent the green shoots of an industry in transition. Many of these publications emerged from news deserts to deliver critical information to their communities during the global pandemic, in times of environmental disaster, important elections, or in the context of rising cost-of-living, when accountability from leaders and big economic players is more important than ever.

InQueensland provides free-to-access, public-interest journalism – working to provide our community with an alternative voice in a market once totally dominated by the Murdoch press.

From Monday, we’ll be part of a national campaign – Our News. Our Voice.

It’s a week-long, Australia-wide pledge drive by 34 local and independent newsrooms, all members of LINA – the Local and Independent News Association. LINA is a not-for-profit industry body supporting digital news publishers to increase the diversity, relevance and sustainability of news services in communities across Australia.

During the campaign, each publication will receive every dollar donated through the links on their donation pages – everything invested by each reader will be sent directly back into reporting the important news that matters to Queenslanders.
