A Jeep Cherokee struck the bus in Biggera Waters just after 7pm on Tuesday.

Two people were inside the car and at least six people were on board the bus.

Queensland Ambulance Senior Operational Supervisor Mitch Ware said paramedics were faced with a very chaotic scene.

Eight people were assessed for injuries, including the bus driver, while three were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital.

Among those was a 46-year-old woman with serious leg injuries and two men, including the 25-year-old male driver of the car, who had non-life-threatening injuries.

“The people involved are very fortunate that they only have the injuries that they do,” Mr Ware told reporters on Wednesday.

“Had this been a car versus perhaps a smaller vehicle, I have no doubt that the injuries would have been far greater.”

There were between 50 and 60 witnesses to the head-on crash with many of them wanting to help, Mr Ware said.

He said it appeared one of the vehicles was travelling at high speed before the crash, which police are investigating.
