The 44-year-old also faces charges of endangering property by fire after allegedly setting the home alight as the couple’s children slept.

An early-morning jogger raised the alarm when he spotted the man in “significant distress” at the Grange home just before 5.30am on Thursday.

The man suffered a single stab wound, with a 20cm kitchen blade narrowly missing his heart, police said.

Despite suffering critical injuries, the injured man pulled the knife from his chest, tossing the blade into his front yard, and witnesses rushed to his aid.

Neighbours rescued the children as the fire was extinguished without causing significant damage to the home.

The injured man is recovering in hospital, and the woman was treated for smoke inhalation before being charged by police on Monday.

She is expected to appear at Brisbane Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
