A man has been taken into custody after a truck rammed two police vehicles, leaving four police injured.

The 19-year-old was allegedly driving a stolen car when he was initially involved in a serious hit-and-run accident in Mackay on Sunday morning, that left a 75-year-old woman with critical injuries.

Police will allege the teen fled the scene before motorists travelling the Bruce Highway spotted him driving erratically several hours later.

The teen overtook a marked police vehicle headed south on the Bruce Highway, sparking a brief pursuit that ended when the stolen car was involved in a head-on collision.

The occupants of the second vehicle, a 70-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman, were transported to Mackay Base Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 19-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and faces a string of charges, including dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident and evading police.

He’s also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle as well as disqualified and unlicensed driving.

He is expected to face Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday.
