Kirra Beach Hotel is an icon in every sense of the word. The new-look hotel has opened its doors just in time for summer sipping with publican and licensee Greg ‘Hodgy’ Hodge at the helm once more. Transforming the high-profile corner position on Marine Parade and Miles Street, the new 1300-sqm Kirra Beach Hotel features a sun-soaked beer garden alongside a family-friendly bistro, kids area, public bar, sports bar and boutique bottle shop.

Designed to make the most of the venue’s impeccable location, the new Kirra Beach Hotel features soaring five-metre ceilings and expansive windows that yield views over one of Australia’s most famous point breaks. Technē Architecture + Interior Design are behind the new look, which pays homage to the suburb’s surf culture with iconic surfing memorabilia adorning the walls and signed boards taking pride of place above the main bar.

“We were deeply inspired by the location of the venue and the meaning it holds for the local community,” Bianca Baldi, Technē associate says. “A truly one-of-a-kind environment, our design sought to pay homage to its coastal locale and laidback beachside lifestyle. These characteristics are reflected in the surf culture-related stylings, the colour palette mirroring the transition of landscape — from ocean waters to the sandy beach and hinterlands — as well as in the layered materiality, which inspires a nostalgic yet welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.”

As for the menu, head chef Richard Whiting has compiled a people-pleasing selection that ranges from classic pub grub through to weekly seafood specials, fresh from the trawler – think oysters, bugs, prawns, bug rolls and a massive KBH seafood platter that’s loaded with a little bit of everything. Behind the bar, Hodgy and the team will be pouring icy schooners with a focus on local brewers alongside Australian wines and local spirits.

The Kirra Beach Hotel is the first of two hospitality venues opening as part of stage one of KTQ Group’s spectacular and highly-anticipated Kirra Point Precinct, with Kirra Beach House opening in early December. Despite the obvious aesthetic upgrades, Hodgy says it still has that nostalgic, old-school pub charm to it.

“The Kirra Beach Hotel has always been more than just a pub for our guests … it’s a second home, a place where you can relax and be on a first name basis with our staff, a place where you can pop in after a surf and grab a bite to eat, and perch up with a beer in hand and watch the waves and magic of Kirra roll in,” he added. “We will always keep a tub of thongs behind the bar for you, if you haven’t got shoes.” Oh, and there’s 130 parking spaces underground.
