It doesn’t get much warmer than a single malt or cosier than a quaint speakeasy filled with leather armchairs and smooth jazz. If that sounds like your ideal winter vibe, Tweed Heads has welcomed a brand-new speakeasy-style bar to get you through hibernation. It’s called Still & Barrel and here’s everything you need to know …
You get to the point when you no longer wish to stand in endless lines, perch precariously on any kind of crate or sip from a jam jar. When that day comes, you’ll find yourself with a newfound appreciation for venues that offer comfortable chairs and a quality selection of liquor.
Speaking of, allow us to introduce you to Still & Barrel, the brand-new speakeasy-style bar hidden within Twin Towns on the Coolangatta/Tweed Heads border. Decked out with leather armchairs, sofas and booth-style seating, the aptly named bar is stocked with over 400 premium spirits.
The star of the show is – as you might expect – a worldly range of scotch. If ‘peated’ is your style, Twin Towns’ beverage manager Rafael Caetano recommends the Octomore Edition 13.3, super-heavily peated single malt scotch whiskey. Although hard to get your hands on at the moment, Rafael has also managed to add a very special Macallan 15-year-old double cask single malt to the beverage list, which also happens to be James Bond’s whiskey

Among Still & Malt’s imbibe-able inventory is a taste-bud tingling selection of Australian scotch, alongside more than 30 Japanese whiskey brands. You can even treat yourself to a nip of the Kurayoshi pure malt, aged for 18 years. If gin is your tipple of choice, you’re in luck as there’s also a delightful array of gin from around the world as well as bourbon, rum, tequila and vodka to wet your whistle.
Accompanying your sip are gourmet grazing boards loaded with cured meats, cheeses, antipasto and organic breads. Rounding out Still & Barrel’s offering is an ever-changing line-up of soloists and duos that will have you tapping along to anything from jazz to R&B.
Still & Barrel opens Thursday to Saturday from 8:30 pm ‘til late with live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.
