The comprehensive retrospective will include screenings from recent digital restorations of all but one of Fellini’s films, which have come directly from the archive of the director’s beloved filmmaking studio – Cinecittà.

Grab some popcorn and settle in to take a deep drive into the life of Fellini through his films. The auteur is regarded as of the most influential directors in cinemas history, boasting a roster of flicks that draw inspiration from the authenticity of Italian neorealism from the 1940s.

The program will include Fellini’s first feature film Variety Lights (1950), co-directed with Alberto Lattuada to his final film starring Roberto Bengini The Voice of the Moon (1990). It follows his ascent into cinema history through the crown jewels of Fellini’s career including the self-aware comedy drama 8 1/2 (1963), the seductive yet damning La Dolce Vita (1960), the Oscar winning La Strada (1954) and the flamboyant Fellini Satyricon (1969).

Fellini fans will have the opportunity to witness the progression of the larger-than-life director’s work, over a career which lasted for more than 40 years. While incredibly varied, his work carries some distinct themes which draw on personal memories or dreams, and contain a sense of the theatrical.

One of the most decorated directors in film history, Fellini collected four Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and top honours from the Cannes and Venice film festivals, and his work continues to influence generations of filmmakers.

The Films of Federico Fellini screenings take place on Wednesday and Friday nights, as well as Saturday and Sunday matinees at the Australian Cinémathèque. To check out the complete program and to nab tickets, head over to the QAGOMA website.
