Halloween’s been, but there’s still plenty for you to do around the River City

In case you missed it, we’ve landed smack bang in November. With Halloween and Melbourne Cup behind us and the silly season swiftly approaching, our calendar is fast becoming jam-packed. If you happen to have some free time this weekend and you’re looking to fill it with some super-fun activities, read on to discover the best things happening in Brisbane over the next few days.

Live shows
A bunch of must-see concerts, gigs and music-soaked soirees are coming to Brisbane this weekend, and we are ready for some live tunes. On Sunday, park goers can soak up some smooth tunes at The Sound Society at Roma Street Parkland from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. The Zoo is set to host No Fun At All on Friday, Soilwork on Saturday, and a yacht rock party on Sunday. The Princess Theatre is celebrating its first birthday on Friday with some help from the rambunctious BUGS, blissful Peach Fur, and powerhouse Jaguar Jonze, while The Steele Syndicate will perform at the venue on Saturday. The Tivoli will welcome WAAX on Friday, Mall Grab on Saturday, and Harts on Sunday, who will be performing a tribute to Jimmy Hendrix. Beloved songstress Vera Blue will be hitting The Fortitude Music Hall on Friday, British rock band IDLES play live on Sunday. Justice For The Damned is playing The Triffid on Thursday, followed by Alex Lahey on Saturday and Ashe on Sunday. Join Marcus Corowa as he takes you on a journey through songs that have inspired him throughout his career in Some Kind of Wonderful. Expect a unique take on everything from Carole King, the Bee Gees, Louis Armstrong and the legends of Motown, as well as original songs that cross the musical divide. Crowded House is headed to Sirromet Wines on Saturday, with the band set to perform legendary anthems from the band’s 35-year career, including ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, ‘Something So Strong’, ‘Four Seasons In One Day’, ‘Distant Sun’ and ‘Weather With You’. Join Camerata – Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra for the premiere of new music inspired by their residency in Making Place: 100 Views of Brisbane at an intimate concert experience exclusive to Museum of Brisbane this FridaySurrounded by artworks, Queensland’s leading chamber musicians perform this special musical score, taking the audience on a journey through the key themes of the exhibition as well as sharing their interactions with visitors, the artwork and their own interpretations of “place”.

Exhibitions
Curious culture lovers can check out Embodied Knowledge, a focused survey of new work by Queensland artists showing at Queensland Art Gallery. This group of commissioned and recent projects brings to the fore the voices of women, people of colour and LGBTIQA+ artists, all with a close connection to the sunshine state. Fans of Mickey, Minnie, Elsa, Anna and everyone in between are sure to adore Queensland Museum’s newest exhibition, Disney: The Magic of Animation. This kid- and adult-friendly exhibition will draw back the curtain on almost 100 years of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, revealing the magic and hard work behind scenes of your favourite animated films. Jewellery lovers can take their peepers over to Museum of Brisbane to discover World of Wonder: Margot McKinney, a mesmerising celebration of the brand that is Margot McKinney. You’ll be able to set your eyes upon a treasure chest of jewels – from magnificent opals and eye-catching pearls to rare, exotic gems like blue tanzanite, lilac amethyst and pink tourmalines. Giving us the perfect excuse to wander around the city is Brisbane City Council’s newest Outdoor Gallery exhibition, play/ground. Art enthusiasts are set to be wowed by a series of breathtaking artworks in light boxes, banners, vitrines, and evening projections across destinations including Howard Smith Wharves, Ann Street and Fish Lane.

Out-of-the-box activities
Those feeling extra adventurous this weekend can hit up Brisbane’s most ‘grammable experience – Imaginaria. The stunning immersive play experience combines audio-visual art, inflatable architecture, light installations and futuristic gamification suitable for all ages. From now until December 3 you can treat yourself to some quality you-time at the Medibank Feel Good Program. Set in the serene surrounds of South Bank Parklands, the program is offering a range of classes to suit all ages and fitness levels. Surrender yourself to the serenity at yoga, get pumped up at energy class and even bring along your little one for the mini and me classes. Lovers of F. Scott Fitzgerald can immersive themselves in 1920s glamour at The Great Gatsby: An Immersive Theatrical Production. Led by an ensemble cast of the highest calibre Australian actors, this production will offer audiences the opportunity to experience the story of Gatsby as they have never seen it before. Expect secret rendezvous, dramatic confrontations, bootleg gin and a party that only Gatsby could throw. We hope you’re holding onto your umbrellas as Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s supercalifragilistic new production of Mary Poppins is currently showing at QPAC for a strictly limited season. Adapted from the beloved stories by PL Travers and the original film, this stage show is a practically perfect time. Movie lovers can revel in a roster of exciting flicks from across the globe at Brisbane International Film Festival 2022, which is returning from October 27 to November 6 with a program of cinematic gems. Nerdy about NASA? If that’s a yes, then you’re going to love the new space-centric experience coming to Brisbane. Opening in QueensPlaza this Saturday, Neighbourhood Earth is an out-of-this-world experience that lets visitors explore the solar system and our place within it.

Markets and foodie fun
If you’re eager to stroll through some stalls and stock up on some fresh fruit and veg, be sure check out these markets happening – Saturday Fresh MarketRiverside MarketsKelvin Grove Village MarketJan Powers Farmers MarketsDavies Park MarketCarseldine Markets and the Redcliffe Markets. For delicious dinnertime eats, Eat Street Northshore is on for your snacking pleasure on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. For a hint of mystery, head to Westoria this Friday – a brand-new night market bringing a sense of wonder, excitement and sense-enlivening magic to 120 Jane Street, just next door to the home of the West End Markets at Davies Park. Expect stilt walkers and fire twirlers weaving through the crowd, tarot-card readers telling fortunes, aromatic street-food stalls hawking all sorts of tempting eats, bars dispensing beers, wines and signature cocktails, and musicians filling the air with sweet sounds. Looking to wet your whistle? Head to Customs House to check out the Chandon Garden Spritz pop-up, where you can sip on flutes of champagne and snack on an assortment of tasty morsels in open-air garden domes. Oenophiles can make their way to Fish Lane this Sunday for the Fresco Wine Festival, which is bringing with it a host of Australia’s best new-wave winemakers. Wine lovers will be able to enjoy bottomless tastings from some of Australia’s best sustainable producers, with a focus on organic farming key to the curated collection of makers in attendance.
