The CopperString power project takeover and approval by the State Government has started to spark renewable investment negotiations in north west Queensland.

CopperString has helped spark interest at Julia Creek

Vanadium proponent QEM said it had received non-binding offers in relation to a wind and solar farms of 1 gigawatt alongside the planned vanadium and oil shale mine at Julia Creek had been received.

QEM managing director Gavin Loyden said the move proved the interest was there and the CopperString announcement had assisted in providing a level of certainty to the market.

CopperString is a $5 billion transmission project that would link Mt Isa to Townsville allowing for the flow of electricity to the mining city for the first time but also allowing large-scale renewable projects to go ahead.

In a market update, QEM said it had received a number of non-binding offers from global developers would be assessed before the start of a due diligence process which would result in a short list.

However, there was no guarantee that any of the bids would result in a binding offer.
