Gold Coast detectives allege the men contacted their victims through an online classified advertisements.

The men responded to the women’s advertisements, agreed on financial terms for sexual services and subsequently committed the offences when they met in person in parklands at Labrador, police will allege.

Detective Sergeant Dane Sheraton said the alleged offenders were identified quickly after the two “exceptionally brave” women made complaints to police.

“The two offences that we have identified this far have very similar circumstances surrounding them and we have information and reason to believe further offences might have also occurred on Gold Coast,’’ he said.

One man was in custody and the other had been released on strict bail conditions, Detective Sergeant Sheraton said.

The first incident occurred in late January with one alleged offender.

The second incident happened in late February allegedly involved both men, who are friends, Detective Sergeant Sheraton said.

“It’s obviously very concerning sexual offences have been committed against anyone, but particularly resulting from an online platform,’’ he said.

Police would like to speak to any other victims of similar incidents involving classified advertisements, particularly in parklands in Labrador and areas on the Gold Coast.

Detective Sergeant Sheraton said police understood why victims may be hesitant to come forward.

“I’d like to provide them with the confidence to come forward knowing that we’ve taken these complaints of the other victims very seriously.

“We’ve acted on those complaints. We’ve investigated and prosecuted for those complaints and one of those males who we will allege is the main offender, is remanded in custody,’’ he said.

The two men separately appeared in the Southport Magistrate’s Court this month.

Police charged a man, 26, with fraud, attempted rape and rape following his arrest on March 9. He appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on March 11.

Police charged a 28-year-old man with two counts of sexual assault and one count of rape. He appeared in the Southport Magistrate’s Court on March 12.
