French visitor was at the wheel when SUV rolled on Teewah beach, killing driver and injuring four

A tourist has died and another four people have been injured after a four-wheel drive rollover on a southeast Queensland beach.

A French man aged in his 20s died at the scene after emergency services arrived before noon at Teewah Beach north of Brisbane on Sunday.

Police said the French tourist was the driver of the 4WD which rolled “several times” while travelling along the beach at Cooloola Recreation Reserve near Noosa.

It is believed the accident occurred after the 4WD swerved to avoid an unknown object.

Queensland Ambulance Service said four passengers – three men and a woman, all aged in their 20s – were transported to hospital.

A woman with head and arm injuries and a man with a suspected spinal complaint were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

A man with suspected spinal injuries and another with head and arm complaints were transported to hospital by ambulance.

All passengers were in a stable condition, QAS said.

It is believed the passengers are also international visitors.
