Paramedics responded to a call after 4pm on Thursday and found a 16-year-old boy with knife wounds to his abdomen and legs in a Kelvin Grove park, police say.

The teenager is in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Kelvin Grove State College (KGSC) confirmed on Friday that the victim was a student at the school.

“One of our students was harmed in an incident at a park outside our school yesterday evening,” KGSC executive principal Joel Buchholz said in a newsletter.

“I would like to assure you that the student is receiving care and being well supported.

“Please understand that we must respect the privacy of the student and their family at this time and so we cannot provide further details.”

The alleged attack took place in front of other students, he said.

“This incident was witnessed by a number of students and we have counselling services in place for anyone who needs support.”

Police said a number of people left the scene after the stabbing before a 16-year-old boy was arrested later that night.

Both teenagers are known to each other, police say.

The arrested teen has been charged with grievous bodily harm and will appear in Brisbane Childrens Court at a later date.
