Jayden Daniel Moorea was charged with murdering 21-year-old Breeana Robinson, who died on January 29, 2013.

But prosecutors told the Brisbane Supreme Court on Wednesday they had decided not to continue with the case.

Mr Moorea was charged with one count each of murder and damaging evidence with intent.

Justice Peter Applegarth discharged him on both counts.

Prosecutors determined there are no reasonable prospects of securing a conviction against Mr Moorea, who was formerly known as Dan Shearin.

“The Crown has reviewed all of the admissible evidence and determined that there are no reasonable prospects of securing a conviction in this case,” a spokesperson for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions earlier told AAP in a statement.

The case was listed for a two-week trial from November 13.

Mr Moorea denied killing Ms Robinson but was charged with her murder in January 2019 after biomechanics experts formed the opinion that she was thrown from the balcony of his luxury Gold Coast apartment.

Ms Robinson’s aunt Janine Mackney fought ahead of the charges being laid to clear her niece’s name after it was initially claimed she took her own life.

“I knew from the first moment,” she said at the time.

“She would never have left us.”

The former cruise ship worker changed his name to Mr Moorea after a French Polynesian island and his favourite cruise ship destination.
