The 25-year-old from Warner in Brisbane’s north faces drink driving and other charges after the incident last week which raised concerns over the officer’s conduct.

Police say the man was agitated and drinking a bottle of wine when they arrived at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Gympie and Samsonvale roads about 1.45pm on June 22.

He was allegedly given numerous directions to remain in one of the damaged vehicles, but he continued to attempt to get out by kicking the door into the officer.

The officer used physical force to contain the man in the vehicle, police said.

“Police will allege the man was drinking from a wine bottle and was under the influence of the substance,” a police statement said.

“After the officer attempted to take the bottle away several times, it was allegedly thrown towards him.

“The man continued to attempt to leave the car and after several verbal warnings, a Taser was deployed by police.”

After more officers arrived on scene, one was allegedly spat on by the man.

The man was charged with drink driving and other offences including obstructing police, assaulting police and resisting a public officer.

He remains in custody at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he was taken for treatment to minor cuts.

The man is due to appear before the Pine Rivers Magistrates Court on August 7.
