Pisasale, 71, became eligible for parole in October and is understood to have been released on Tuesday.

The state’s Parole Board confirmed the decision in a statement.

“The Parole Board Queensland can confirm that a decision on a parole application for prisoner Paul Pisasale has been finalised,” a spokesman said.

“It would be inappropriate for the Board to comment on the particulars of individual parole matter.”

Pisasale, once known as ‘Mr Ipswich’ who revelled in being one of Australia’s most high-profile mayors, was already in jail for extortion when he pleaded guilty in 2020 to a raft of corruption, perjury drugs and sexual assault charges.

Pisasale was a popular mayor credited with the “renaissance” of Ipswich during his tenure from 2004 to 2017.

He resigned in June 2017 after 13 years in the position following a CCC raid at his office and home.
