Greek Club gunfire – man dies in street after being shot multiple times by police

A man has died after being shot by police multiple times after allegedly threatening them during a confrontation in inner Brisbane.

“Following brief interaction with officers it is understood he threatened them and was shot. The man died at the scene,” Queensland Police Service said in a statement.

The area near the Greek Club has been cordoned off and the street closed.

Officers were called about the man’s behaviour on Edmondstone St, South Brisbane, about 3pm on Tuesday.

Police say after brief interaction, the man allegedly threatened them and was shot.

He died at the scene.

Edmonstone St has been declared a crime scene and closed to the public.

The incident being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.

Some witnesses said that the man brandished a knife and when he lunged at police he was shot.

It is the third police shooting in the past month.
