Police believe a 43-year-old Surfers Paradise man was in the Burleigh heads public bathroom about 5:40am on Monday when he was allegedly attacked from behind.

It’s alleged a 31-year-old man “stabbed and slashed” the older man with a knife before he was confronted by passers-by and fled.

Members of the public followed the man and contacted police.

The accused man was found in Palm Beach shortly after where a knife was seized and he was taken into custody.

His alleged victim was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries to his head and hands.

They are not believed to be known to one another.

The 31-year-old is expected to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
