The injured 24-year-old is undergoing surgery in Brisbane for a gunshot wound to the head after the incident just before 3am.

Police say he was in the driver’s seat of a Mitsubishi sedan when a number of shots were fired from a Ford Ranger ute.

Paramedics saw the sedan parked on the wrong side of the road on their way to the injured man at a Coonan Street address, Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said on Tuesday.

“We believe he was followed by a number of persons in a white Ford Ranger, and we believe that vehicle was involved in discharging a number of rounds,” he said.

The victim and the people in the ute are known to each other, police say.

A burnt-out vehicle matching the description of the ute was later out about half an hour away.

Police are appealing for witnesses and say the Ford Ranger may have been parked in Coonan Street before the shooting.
