A 32-year-old man has been charged with a string of offences, allegedly driving over an officer’s leg and assaulting another before finally being captured after police surrounded an Avoca petrol station.

A 44-year-old officer has been taken to a Bundaberg hospital for treatment.

The 44-year-old is the second Queensland officer to allegedly be struck by a stolen car in a fortnight after Senior Constable Luke Zannier was hospitalised following a hit and run in Brisbane’s south.

Queensland Police said they had been looking for the driver of a black Holden Commodore reported stolen on December 14 after the vehicle had been involved in four incidents last week in Bundaberg and nearby Gin Gin.

“On each occasion the driver allegedly evaded police interception, driving dangerously to avoid capture,” a police statement said.

Officers spotted the Commodore at the petrol station and surrounded it with police cars after noon on Sunday as a passenger was pumping fuel.

Police allege as they attempted to apprehend the 32-year-old he reversed into a police car before driving forward, running over an officer’s leg.

The man then allegedly assaulted another officer while being taken into custody.

Police said the 32-year-old was found in possession of methylamphetamine.

The man was charged with stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of serious assault of police, three counts each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and evade police, five counts of disqualified driving, and seven counts of breach of bail.

He will appear in a Bundaberg court on Monday.
