Dramatic video: Toddlers escape Gold Coast child care centre, run onto busy road
An inquiry has been launched after dashcam footage captured the moment two toddlers ran alongside a busy Coomera road on the Gold Coast after escaping through an “open gate” at a childcare centre, with school students racing to their rescue.
A video posted to a community page on social media shows two young children running towards busy Foxwell Road yesterday, before older school children and another woman stopped them.
It happened near the Okeedokee Coomera Rivers childcare centre on Gunther Avenue.
A spokeswoman from Okeedokee said it was cooperating with an Education Department investigation.
On the local community Facebook page a member posted that she had witnessed the incident.
“We just literally saved the lives of two babies today as they were stepping onto the busy road near the Foxwell Road Finnegan Way roundabout,” Rondell Nicol said.
“They walked through an open gate at Okeedokee Coomera Rivers.
“The staff excuse was that they didn’t know the gate was open and didn’t know where the babies were.
“The police have been contacted and dashcam footage made available.”
Queensland police and the Department of Education have been contacted for comment.
The Australian Childcare Alliance Queensland said it cannot comment on open and ongoing investigations.
