Appointments: BDO promotes Wennerbom

BDO promotes Wennerbom, the District Court gets a new judge, QIC builds its ESG team and Wyatt Roy stands down from the Tech Council in this week’s Queensland appointments.

BDO promotes Wennerbom

Cara Wennerbom has been promoted to BDO chief operating officer, but would continue to remain in Brisbane.

She was previously chief financial officer, a position she took up when the company’s revenue was about $50 million. It was now about $400 million.

Wennerbom is also a director of Netball Queensland.

District Court’s new judge

The State Government has appointed litigation specialist Nicholas Andreatidis KC to the District Court bench.

He has appeared previously in the Robodebt Royal Commission, the Grantham floods inquiry, the Paradise Dam inquiry and the Royal Commission into violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with a disability.

QIC builds ESG team

Queensland Investment Corporation has expanded its ESG team to six with the appointment of Alison Ewings as general manager and Sonia Auld as the social lead.

Ewings was previously with Regnan and Auld was with the NSW Department of Education.

Semler gets Critical

Nicola Semler has been appointed as chief technology officer for Critical Minerals Group.

Previously she worked for Newcrest as a principal metallurgist

Rightcrowd replaces CFO

Gold Coast-based Rightcrowd said chief financial officer James Stewart had left the company and been replaced by Leslie Milne.

The company said Milne had previously served as CFO between 2017 and 2019.

Roy quits Tech Council

Former federal MP Wyatt Roy has resigned as chair of the Australian Technology Council.

Roy was MP for the northern Brisbane seat of Longman and an assistant minister in the Turnbull Government.

His position will be taken by Victor Dominello.

Battery company gets new CFO

Li-S Energy said its chief financial officer Ken Hostland had resigned due to health problems.

The company, which is developing a lithium-sulphur battery, said it had appointed Sarah Price to the CFO position. Price had been group financial controller and had 20 years of experience in finance, risk and taxation.

Change picks up Sam

Fintech company Change Financial has appointed Geoffrey Sam as a non-executive director.

Sam is currently the ciar of Earlypay and a director of Paragon Care. He was previously been on the board of Money 3, Hutchinson’s Childcare and Nova Health.

BAC makes it official for Briggs

The Brisbane Airports Corporation has appointed Warren Briggs as chief financial officer.

Briggs had been acting in the role since February.

He was previously the head finance and treasury.

Kelly signs on

QUT said Professor Sarah Kelly had recently joined the university as its head of the Graduate School of Business.

Kelly is deputy chair of the Brisbane Lions and a deputy chair of Tourism and Events Queensland. She is also on the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee board.

Tymlez director quits

Carbon reporting company Tymlez said its chair Jason Conroy has resigned to devote more time to his business and personal commitments.

Rhys Evans would replace him as chair and Daniel O’Halloran would become a director.
