It was expected to bring about 46,000 inbound seats a year to Brisbane.

It follows a State Government announcement this week that China Airlines would increase its existing Taipei (Taiwan) to Brisbane service from three times a week to five from January.

Tourism and Events Queensland said the Taiwan increase was the seventh that had been supported by the $200 million aviation investment fund created by the industry and the State Government.

The tourism sector has been going through a resurgence in Queensland with domestic tourism showing strong signs of a revival after Covid.

The October accommodation report from Tourism and Events Queensland showed occupancy at 74 per cent, an increase of 26 percentage points on 2021.

Revenue per room was $190, which was a $95 increase on October 2021 and $51 increase on the same period in 2019.

The report said Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Mackay, the southern Great Barrier Reef and Whitsundays reported stronger levels of occupancy, average daily rate and revenue per room all increased in October compared to 2019.

Brisbane Airport was expecting to see its three millionth visitor during the Christmas holidays. That was more than double the number for last year.
