It’s been a big year of firsts for Brisbane Powerhouse. The cultural hub launched its first-ever month-long art and food celebration Night Feast in the first half of 2023 and cut the ribbon on its rooftop restaurant Vertigo in the second. As of Friday November 10, Brisbane Powerhouse will also be home to Brisbane’s first permanent outdoor cinema. With New Farm Park as a picturesque backdrop, guests will recline on rows of outdoor lounge chairs equipped with wide armrests (that means no jostling for position with the random next to you), before donning wireless headphones and taking in the action (or romance, or comedy) playing out on the large outdoor screen, which will be erected atop custom 40-ft shipping containers.

Dendy Powerhouse Outdoor Cinema will offer moviegoers a stylish and comfortable spot to enjoy the latest blockbusters, moving arthouse flicks, children’s content and restorations and re-releases of classic films. From their cushy positions, audiences will also be able to order a drink, cheese box or classic cinema snack (including hand-scooped choc tops) via a QR code.
