The countdown is on for Darkness to Daylight – how to get involved

Darkness to Daylight is just around the corner, taking over Parliament House across Wednesday and Thursday May 29 and 30. And it’s not too late to get involved. Here’s what you need to know and how to show your support as Brisbane makes every step count towards a violence-free future.

May 01, 2024, updated May 01, 2024

Hosted by Challenge DV, Darkness to Daylight consists of a virtual and a live event (participants can choose to do an overnight 110km run, a 10km run or a 3km walk) designed to unite the community as they take a stand against domestic violence and honour lives lost at the hands of abuse.

Filled with energy, support and passion, this annual event gives the community the opportunity to do something physical and meaningful to contribute to domestic and family violence prevention, with funds raised going towards facilitating Challenge DV’s holistic suite of prevention work, including workplace programs, respectful relationships programs and strategic partnerships, designed to mitigate domestic violence in our own community.

This year’s challenge is taking over Parliament House, making it the first event of its kind held on these grounds. Beginning at Parliament House, continuing through the lush City Botanical Gardens, over the Goodwill Bridge and back, participants are invited to walk, jog or run their way through their course of choice – reflecting and connecting for good.

 Join the journey

You don’t have to be an avid runner to partake in Darkness to Daylight. With a choice between both a virtual and a live event (where participants can choose an overnight 110km run, a 3km walk, or a 10km run) it caters to all ambitions and abilities. There are no age restrictions either, so the whole family can lace up their shoes and get involved. Whether you take on the challenge solo or with a crew, all participants will receive a complimentary shirt with reflective strip so you can shine bright while making every step count.

You in? Secure your spot through the Darkness to Daylight website before 9am Monday 27 May 2024.

Challenge DV also welcomes anyone who wishes to volunteer their time as the community comes together for a great cause. You can register as a volunteer here.

Make a donation

Challenge DV’s crucial work is only made possible through the generous donations of the community. This year’s fundraising goal is $350,000, which will go towards continuing Challenge DV’s year-round initiatives in domestic and family violence awareness and prevention. If you can’t make it to the event, or you want to give more than the registration amount, donations can be made directly through the event website.

The first 1000 donors to give $100 or more will also receive an exclusive Darkness to Daylight cap! Plus, there’ll be some special prizes on offer, donated by the Queensland Parliament, to the top three individual fundraisers and one lucky participant who receives a donation of $20 or more.
