Brisbane City names leading health figure to take over CEO role
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner has announced the endorsement of Dr Kerrie Freeman as the new Chief Executive for Brisbane City Council.

This appointment follows a national search to fill the Chief Executive Officer position.
Freeman previously served as CEO of the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, the chief executive of West Moreton Health and executive director hospital services of Children’s Health Queensland. She has a PhD in Community Health, a Bachelor of Business Studies and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
The Civic cabinet has endorsed Freeman and her selection is to be ratified at tomorrow’s Council meeting.
“Our Council team is committed to keeping Brisbane moving and Kerrie will play an important role helping us make that happen,” said Mayor Schriner. “With her experience leading large complex organisations, Kerrie will play a critical role helping us build better roads, improve public transport, keep costs down for residents and make Brisbane’s lifestyle even better.”
The move to Brisbane marks a return home for Dr Freeman and her husband, who have family in the city including a new granddaughter.
“My family and I absolutely love Brisbane and all it has to offer and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to contribute my experience, passion and skills to a team that’s shaping Brisbane’s future,” she said.
“I’m excited to be selected as CEO of Brisbane City Council where I look forward to contributing to a vibrant community and working alongside the Lord Mayor and Civic Cabinet to build a brighter future for the city.”
