The 47-year-old possible children’s TV fan is alleged to have nabbed $600,000 worth of the unreleased coins from the back of a truck while working at a warehouse in western Sydney on June 23.
Police received a report that 63,000 unreleased $1 Bluey coins, produced by the Australian Mint, had been stolen from the warehouse in Wetherill Park on July 12.
Strike Force Bandit detectives pursued the case to a home in Sefton where 189 unreleased coins were uncovered on July 31.
Following another search of a home in Westmead, a 47-year-old man was arrested about 7am on Wednesday.
“The man sold the coins online hours after he stole them,” NSW Police said officers will allege in court.
The coins are now being sold online for ten times their face value.
The man was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with three counts of break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence.
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
