QPAC’s Clancestry Conversations centre on First Nations connection and identity

QPAC’s annual celebration of First Nations art and culture returns from 30 July to 9 August. An iconic event part of QPAC’s calendar since 2013, Clancestry is a celebration of identity and connection, providing a platform for both established and emerging First Nations artists to share their stories, perspectives, and talents.

After successful sessions in 2023, Clancestry Conversations returns to the Clancestry program in the Cremorne Theatre with two in-depth discussions on Saturday 3 August, centred on First Nations issues of today.

The morning session will share the true stories behind the new Torres Strait Island musical, Straight from the Strait, which makes its world premiere at QPAC later this year as part of Brisbane Festival.

This conversation will feature stories from the families of the extraordinary Torres Strait Islander workers, who made history in 1968 by laying an unprecedented 7 kilometres of track in a single day on the Mount Newman railway project— shattering a world record that remains unbeaten.

The afternoon session will highlight the remarkable efforts of Link-Up (Qld), an organisation dedicated to helping Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people reconnect with their families and heritage. Learn about the important work they do in family history research, facilitating healing activities, and community education, and gain a deeper understanding behind the profound significance of reconnecting the Stolen Generations with both their families and Country.

Don’t miss these thought-provoking and insightful conversations as part of Clancestry 2024.
